How many times a day do you hear the words content creator roll off the tongue of people around you?
Let’s just take a vote by a show of hands! Now as awkward as it is to be reading this and your hand is raised in the air, I appreciate you for participating in my little case study. Trust me, I had my hand in the air as well, but this is all for a good cause.
With that being said, this isn’t to downplay the fact that everyone seems to identify with being a content creator. This is great because it gives individuals the opportunity to tap into a creative outlet, but it comes with it’s own set of challenges. The true test is whether or not you are perceived as an influencer or actually influential.
What is Influence?
The word in itself has a pretty clear definition.

Based solely on the definition, you can see that to be an influencer you have to be an effective figure in your niche. It’s a plain and simple concept, but it’s often confused for power, authority and persuasion. In order to be a better social media influencer, I have crafted 5 steps that will push you in the right direction.
Find a Niche
Be an expert at what you’re good at. Don’t pick a niche that you aren’t passionate about. You are essentially going to be a problem solver so you want to be knowledgeable and personable.
Build Your Community
A true influencer will value what it means to help the people who matter to you. It is important to go out and share your expertise with various people. Starting off small is ideal for beginners, but over time you will be able to reach a large crowd by just being true to yourself.
Tell A Story
This is the one thing that I truly take to heart. Believe it or not, influencers are visual storytellers and there is so much power behind a good story. The content that you put out into the world should be meaningful and portray your everyday lifestyle. I see it as creating content with a purpose that will end up being an extension of your brand.
Take Aim at Value
The goal is to provide value and usefulness in everything that you do. Quite frankly, there has a to be a reason why you are sought after for information. Always ask yourself, how am I adding value to the world ?
Consistency is Key
The world of content creating is shifting towards quality over quantity. Putting a little extra time into your work will pay off in the long run and it will help with build trust with your community.
